Life moves at the speed of light these days. As each year passes, it seems like time moves faster and faster. Things can easily spin out of control if we’re not careful, and our to-do lists start looking more like novels.
Here are 5 quick things that you can do to regain control over your life, and feel better about yourself in the process.
1. Detox your home
It is amazing how good you feel after a quick clean up. Commit an hour to this task and file away those bills where they belong, clean out your kitchen cupboards and throw out any off food, hit up the bathroom cabinet and rid yourself of all those half empty bottles of moisturiser you never use.
Same goes for your wardrobe. Get stuck in and pull out all the clothes you haven’t worn in over a year. Stop holding on to it thinking you may need it one day. You won’t. Get rid of it.
2. Pay your bills
I know this one sucks, but just do it. You’re going to have to eventually anyway right? Get it out the way and move on.
3. Prepare your meals for the week
We’re all pushed for time during the week, and being in a hurry often means making poor food choices. Use your Sunday evening to cook up a big batch of healthy goodness for your lunches and/or dinners for the week. Make a big veggie lasagne or a batch of heart-warming soup. If you can’t eat it all this week, freeze the rest to defrost next time you get home late from work without a plan for dinner. It sure beats takeaway or a frozen TV dinner.
4. Write a Thank You letter
Did someone give you a gift recently? Or were they generous with their time or resources? Send a card. Thank you cards are just reserved for formal occasions. The act of sitting down to write one will make you feel more socially connected. Writing is also a great way to unwind and to slow down. Plus – everyone loves getting something in the mail, so send your thank you the old school way, and make your recipient smile.
5. Get outside
I read a brilliant quote recently. An old New York lady said that she loved going outside, because every time she did, something wonderful happened. This is so true. Nothing is going to happen while you’re sitting around at home. Get outside, amongst society, and enjoy. Meet new people, go to a new café or walk a different route. The vitamin D will do you go, and you never know who you might meet or what will happen to you.
