We all come up against road blocks in life. There are those that are inevitable, and those that we can change. Fear is often a constant element in these roadblocks, causing us to put up barriers or not reach our goals.
Luckily, there are ways we can deal with these fears, and stop them from getting in the way of our intentions. These four simple steps will help you sort through those nasty things that are holding you back, and clear the way for all the amazing stuff that you can accomplish.
When identifying what is happening within you and thinking about the roadblocks that are stopping you from achieving your goals, work through this process:
1. Observe what is happening
What is the "fear" that you are experiencing? Get out a piece of paper and a pen, and write it out like a story.
2. Notice which feelings are present
Notice how this experience feels to you.
3. Give those feelings a "voice"
Listen to these feelings. In the past, for example, you the voice may have said "I feel bad about who I am", "I'm not good enough", "Something bad is going to happen" etc. Notice if you have ever experienced this feeling in the past.
4. Allow yourself to feel the feeling
Notice where the feeling is in your body. Honour these feelings until they "let go" of you. I often experience severe anxiety, and sometimes, despite wanting to ignore it and push it away, I let the anxiety simply sit with me. I acknowledge its presence, then I try to move on. Bringing these feelings to the fore, instead of burying them deeper within us, can help rid these unwelcome emotions from the body.
You may like to express these emotions in a physical way, such as journaling, or through yoga or other activity. Find a physical outlet for your emotion.
Once you have completed the 4-step process, take action! Take one action that is aligned with what you want to create in your life.
