Last week I wrote about the importance of switching to organic skin care products. This week, I want to begin to delve into some of the products I have been experimenting with.
First off the bat is foundation. While I do prefer to get around sans makeup, most days I feel more comfortable with a bit of coverage on my face. Juice Beauty is one brand of cosmetics and skin care that offers certified organic products. Recently I have been using their Perfecting Foundation.
According to the Juice Beauty website, the Perfecting Foundation is made using organic aloe juice, fruit extracts and minerals. The product is said to be packed with antioxidant-rich resveratrol, which helps protect skin against dangerous free radicals, as well as Vitamin E, rich minerals and organic acai, goji and multiple berries.
Importantly, the foundation is formulated without parabens, petroleum, propylene, butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phyhalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances. In addition, no Juice Beauty products are tested on animals. It is gluten-free too, as an added bonus.
The first thing to note about this foundation is the price. At USD $35.00, it is a steal. I am used to paying upwards of $60.00 for foundation, so to me, the price point was very alluring.
One important aspect of any foundation is the level of coverage. Juice Beauty is quite thick to put on, but spreads easily and lightly across the skin, giving the feeling of hydration. You can tell it is primarily a water-based solution by the way it glides on to the skin.
The coverage is decent and you don't need too much. About a quarter (or ten cent piece if you're reading in Australia) is more than sufficient. I have normal skin and the foundation stays on for most of the day, only requiring a touch up at night before going out. If you have oily skin, you may need an additional puff of natural powder on top to get the coverage you need.
The foundation has quite a pleasant smell - nothing overpowering, but just a nice 'makeup' smell, if that makes sense! It is weightless and blended in well with my skin tone.
While it's not as smooth as the traditional brands I am used to (I am a Georgio Armani girl at heart), for an organic makeup, it certainly gives the other stuff a run for its money. For an organic, all natural and non-toxic foundation, Juice Beauty's Perfecting Foundation certainly hits the spot.
