Rosemary’s is a relative newcomer on the West Village scene. A white square corner building is home to this restaurant, with its claim to fame being its rooftop market farm, where chefs harvest its bounty to cook in the many Italian dishes on offer.
The space itself is warm and welcoming. Tea light candles line the tables and small party lights are strung delicately around the room, giving the interior a festive vibe.
Diners are given the option of traditional low tables or higher share bars situated closer to the kitchen. When the weather permits, a spattering of tables street-side allows guests to sit in the sun, enjoying the superbly fresh, seasonal menu on offer here.
A traditional Italian menu means there are a variety of options. Offering breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, the food varies depending on time of day. Popular breakfast (or colazione, as it is known in Italian) features the usual staples (eggs, granola), as well as fresh fruit and vegetable juices. The highlight here really though are the offerings from the rooftop farm. Delights include any selection of the ‘Verdure’ – vegetables – most, if not all, are sourced from directly above diners’ heads. Think beets, dandelion and hazelnuts, or radishes with butter, salt and thyme. Simple but deliciously satisfying. Here, the freshness really speaks for itself.
The dinner menu can be heavy, offering traditional Italian-style meat dishes. The porchettina and lamb are two such examples. Here, the lamb arrives pulled, which allows for the tenderness and saltiness to really shine. Paired with braised greens or fresh market sides, this meal is hearty and satisfying.
Prices here are reasonable, given its location, fit out and access to such fresh and quality produce. The vibe is also cool, with a constant stream of West Village locals populating the scene. A definite must visit.
