The Flinders Street Project

Adelaide has, for some time now, had a reputation as a foodie destination. With the opening of a plethora of new bars, cafes and eateries over the last few months, our small but dynamic city has a range of offerings sure to please.

My current favourite and daily go-to is the Flinders Street Project, aptly named due to its location on Flinders Street. The small but airy space is welcoming to boot, with a central long table, window spots and a spattering of outdoor seating for those warmer days.

The vibe of this place is cemented by the ceiling, which is decorated with hundreds and hundreds of wooden spoons, delicately hung at various levels in a wave-like shape. The open kitchen and corner coffee space is very much in fitting with the current trend of eateries that are happy to allow their customers a visual of how their food and coffee is prepared.

The best thing about this spot though, apart from the slightly hipster vibe and lack of mega suits, is the food. Haloumi and smashed avocado on toasted rye is a definite crowd pleaser. Breakfast options such as Bircher muesli and the 'R L Stine Choose Your Own Adventure' menu items are a cool little quirk too.

The staff are friendly and the food is damn fine. Oh, and the coffee is great too.

While the main trade is lunch, they are known to hold pop up dinners as well as degustations for groups. You can register on their website for information about dinner events.

Recommended: SA haloumi, smashed avocado, leaves and pine nuts on toasted rye.
